Im Mai-WSC gibt's eine interessante Geschichte über den Fußball im deutschen Saarland, das erst 1957 der Bundesrepublik beitreten konnte und so auch eine eigene Fußballnationalmannschaft hatte. Und gegen wen haben sie in der WM-Qualifikation für 1954 spielen müssen? Richtig, gegen den späteren Weltmeister BRD.
Nett ist Graham McColls Rezension des Kriminalromans im Fußballmilieu "Pitch Black" von Alex Gray:
"The great difficulty for authors such as Alex Gray mingling football with creative writing is that the twists and turns of the real thing are so bizzare themselves that a fictional approximation can only pale in comparison. Who could have dreamed up the true-life story of Sven? (Sven-Göran Eriksson, zuletzt Trainer der englischen Nationalmannschaft und derzeit von Manchester City) Or of Gretna, propelled from the Unibond League (nördliche englische 7. Liga abwärts) to the SPL (Scottish Premier League) in five years by the largesse of Brooks Mileson, a ponytailed owner with an animal menagerie, then left to crash and burn once they got there?"
Ja, die Realität ist tatsächlich manchmal ärger als die kühnste Phantasie.
